Hello to everyone! I am David J. Gluck.

Thank you for visiting my website. As a contemporary poet I would like to give you the opportunity to learn some about me and my poetry. What I am hopeful in accomplishing is that I will be able to connect with those of you who wouldn't "normally" spend your time reading poetry, and that you might come to enjoy what seems to be a passing form of artistic expression.

My site is constantly changing. I am making an effort to present you with the most up-to-date information on my first book, Life's Pages: A Book of Poetry; People, Places, and Things, along with my soon to be second book, Paper and Granite: Between the Markings. The emphasis of this site is on the poetry and other writings that have influenced me along my journey thus far. It will also spotlight some of the poems from Life's Pages, Paper and Granite, new poems, and supply links to various authors and artists. Poetry must be of interest to you since you have chosen to find your way here; I can only hope that my writing is included in this interest you have. Thank you again for taking the time to visit.

Life's Pages: A Book of Poetry; People, Places, and Things

Being a newly published author, most will be unfamiliar with me and my work. Let me begin by providing a little information about me. I was raised in a rural Iowa farming community. I have been a soldier stationed in Europe, a Pressman for a smalltown newspaper, and a factory worker. For a living, currently I am an over-the-road truck driver approaching the 2 million mile mark. I travel the Continental 48 States year round, and in my "down-time" I enjoy reading and writing. Writing has simply been a hobby of mine until recently. My first published volume of poetry was released Jan. 19, 2009 and is available through the publisher iUniverse.com, along with the online bookstores barnesandnoble.com and amazon.com.

Paper and Granite: Between the Markings

I have recently published my second book of poetry, Paper and Granite: Between the Markings. It is available online at iUniverse.com, amazon.com, and barnes&noble.com. It may also be available in bookstores around the country, if it is not in stock they are able to order it.

I have been experimenting with writing poetry for approximately 20 years now. There have been times when I took it more seriously than at others along the way, but now it seems to have become a passion. I really, really enjoy writing poetry. The twists and turns, the bounce of the words, the rhyme and lack thereof; the complete surprise of where it ends up and the connection it seems to make when it's complete (to itself, myself, or some other), these are the the thrills of the creation! It is an amazing form of written communication.

Nesting...

Inside the east of town
Old Red sits nesting with
swallows and red-wings and
robins, across from stones eternal,
just down from our watering hill,
planted before town encircled,
limiting history's purpose.
