Life's Pages, the completion of a journey through one phase of the life of David J. Gluck. From the emotional consequences of divorce, to finding a place to "fit" in society, David writes openly, honestly, and straight from his heart in this collection. Mostly, Free-Form is his style. However, with rhyme and verse being clearly a part of who he is, they too are prevalent throughout. Loneliness and a search for "who we are" are the things that everyone has in common. As difficult as it may sometimes be to see, we are traveling this journey through life together. These pages portray the commonality in each individual quest for wholeness.
Poems like "To Ye Who Live to Carry On" about one's last dying wish to be remembered not mourned for, "She Smiles" about a day gone by, and "Minds Sight" about visions through the windshield fill each page, illuminating an image one step at a time.
The Silhouettes...
The silhouettes come alive at dawn, Pink and gray, orange, purple, and blue are all around, But the silhouettes come alive at dawn.
And then there's
My Friend...
The Lord says your time here is done, You’ve lived your life fulfilling your purpose, While loving and teaching to love, life’s trials you did endure, Your influence imposed was great, He now surrounds you with your reward.
Though I was not, you treated me as one of your own, You embraced me as a part of your family. You were always there with advice, You were always there with a shoulder, You were always kind, You were always understanding, You were always helpful, You were always compassionate, You were always giving, Your love was always touching.
We grieve your passing for ourselves, understanding our loss, yet we are grateful your suffering is final, I hold my arms out wide, letting your spirit pass through me, giving you my love and thanking you forever.
Until we meet again, Goodbye, my friend.
"Life's Pages" is more than touching...it is real!
There is a vast world of poetry books on the market that I hadn’t realized actually existed until publishing my own. With the selection for the reader seemingly limitless, why would l think mine would be any different from the ordinary poetry book already available? That is a question that maybe I should explore a little.
I don’t believe mine to be ordinary. I write for ordinary people, myself mostly, and hope to connect to the average “Joe” with commonality. There are sometimes double meanings imposed within the context of each poem, but at others, it is pretty straightforward. I like to play with words but at times too many words can only impede. Most of my poetry has been written while sitting behind a steering wheel in a truck stop parking lot after a long day of making sure that the car passing me is able to get to where it is going safely, and that I am able to do the same. Usually to unwind, I choose to read for about an hour or so before losing myself to the pen and paper. The visions through the windshield have progressed all day by the mile and my readings vary nightly, therefore, my poetry is not all about one subject.
I do write about many of the same themes that most poets expound upon; nature, philosophy, religion, dreams, heartache, love, life in general and death. I would suggest that pretty much captures about everything; and that is what my poetry is about. I choose not to limit myself to one particular area of life for fear of missing the rest. I also choose not to stick with one particular style of writing. I enjoy freeform, but I also enjoy verse and rhyme. My poetry is not always what some might consider “proper” with its style. The short poem is fun and a lot of them can be created rather easily for me, but when the longer poem flows out of the pen, it is amazing. I enjoy the challenge of being poetic and continue to drive myself to betterment. That is what makes my book of poetry different.
